Science Information

Volume: the amount of space a shape occupies. (for rectangular prisms LxWxH = Volume in cubic units)

Mass: In everyday usage, "mass" is often used interchangeably with weight but in proper scientific use mass refers to the amount of matter contained within an object. (in class we've been using mostly grams...1 gram is equivalent to about a small paper clip)

Density: the amount of mass per unit of volume. Example: a substance with a a volume of 4 g/cm^3 means that one cubic centimeter of that substance would have a mass of 4 grams!
Density for a substance can be found by dividing an objects mass by it's volume.  (M/V=Density)
